Undergraduate & Graduate DCI
Service
To ensure that students are covered during their stay at UVa, each
of the DCI systems has a four-year warranty included in the package.
In the event that something happens to the system, please use the
following guidelines to obtain service:
Each first-year dorm will have an assigned CA (Computer Advisor) who
can help with many of the common issues that may arise with your
computer system. The Computer Advisor can be an invaluable first
resource, and they will refer you to the ITC Computing Help Desk if
the situation requires further assistance.
Call
the ITC Computing Help Desk at 924-3731. They will be able to help
determine whether the problem you are experiencing is related to
hardware or software.
If the
problem is related to the software that comes with the system, the
ITC Computing Help Desk representative will assist you in fixing the
problem. Software support including computer viruses is not covered
by the Apple or Dell repair warranties. The ITC Computing Help Desk
and other ITC support groups can assist with problems relating to
standard software for academic use through their telephone and email
referral programs. Use of non-standard programs or add-on hardware
may mean you’ll need to remove those programs or the hardware or
consult for-fee services to assist you. Data backup, virus removal
and spyware removal are not covered by the computer warranty and are
available from Cavalier Computers as for-fee services.
If the
problem stems from a hardware failure, the ITC Help Desk will
arrange for Cavalier Computers to contact you to set up on-site
service (for on Grounds and immediate UVa-area computers only) at an
agreed time.
Cavalier Computers cannot provide on-site service for any non-DCI
Apple or Dell computer. Service is available at Cavalier Computers
service locations for most non-DCI computers.
For
Dell systems, when the student is away from the Grounds at UVa, or
the system is sold or given away within the four-year warranty
period, on-site service is still available, and can be obtained by
calling Dell at 1-800-234-1490.
For
Apple systems, when the student is away from the Grounds at UVa, or
the system is sold or given away within the four-year warranty
period, service is still available at any Apple certified service
center.
For
general phone support, Dell can be reached at 1-800-234-1490, and
Apple can be reached at 1-800-800-2775.
