With the end of the fiscal year quickly approaching, please note the following key deadlines to ensure purchases can be applied to this year’s budget. This guidance is provided by UVA Finance and is also available HERE.

April 24, 2026 - Passed
Last day to order ETF purchases through Cavalier Computers.
This deadline assumes equipment can be received by May 15. Any exceptions must be pre‑approved by the Fixed Assets Accounting Group.

June 12, 2026
Last day for Cavalier Computers purchases (excluding capital equipment) and UVA Bookstores purchases (including the UVA Bookstore and Courts & Commerce at the Law School) to be billed in FY26.
To qualify, items must be received and signed for by the department. Shipments that arrive after this date cannot be billed to FY26, so early ordering is strongly encouraged.

Please plan accordingly when placing orders—especially for computing equipment. We have been advised that orders from Microsoft, Lenovo, and HP may take up to eight weeks to arrive due to ongoing industry constraints.

Computer pricing from Dell, HP, and Lenovo continues to increase due to rising RAM and NAND costs. These increases are driven by high demand from AI data centers, creating an industry‑wide supply shortage. As a result, prices for desktops, laptops, and GPUs are rising, and these conditions are expected to persist through 2028.

We are seeing these shortages impact shipping timelines as well. In some cases, orders from Lenovo, HP, and Microsoft are experiencing ship times of approximately 7 weeks. We are now seeing delays with some Apple shipments as well. 

Pricing remains highly volatile, with changes occurring daily. Manufacturers are currently honoring quoted pricing for only 14 days, reduced from the standard 30‑day window. We have already seen several major price increases across Dell, Lenovo, HP, and Microsoft product lines.

If you are planning to make a purchase, we strongly recommend ordering as soon as possible, as additional price increases are expected in the coming weeks. As the fiscal year approaches its end, placing orders early also increases the likelihood that products will arrive in time to meet June fiscal-year-end cutoffs—especially as shipping delays become more common.

Apple is currently experiencing delivery estimates of 4–5 months for several Mac mini and Mac Studio configurations with upgraded RAM. Several models are currently no longer available. We have seen some orders pushed out to July. 

Keep these extended lead times in mind when planning and placing new hardware orders. This is particularly important when upgrading the base memory and storage.

Cavalier Computers continues to provide Departmental Standard Computer Offerings from Dell and Apple. We have now added Lenovo to our Departmental Standards Page. Our Departmental Standards meet the basic requirements for the university as a whole, and we also offer department-specific standards for those departments that have chosen to adopt them.

Due to ongoing price increases, we have removed the upgrade options from our Dell Standards because pricing for memory and hard drives is unstable. If you need to order a standard with upgrades, please email cavcomp-dept@virginia.edu with the model and upgrades you are looking for, along with your worktag. We will work with the manufacturer to provide you with a quote.

Whether you’re exploring the CAV Program or in need of service, our main showroom is available:

Note: Our Departmental Business Division operates Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM, and is closed on weekends.
